The services that we offer in Somerset are counselling for survivors of sexual violence aged 13+, and Specialist Support for survivors of sexual violence aged 16+ and the concerned others of 13-18 year olds in counselling.

We provide time-limited (12-24 sessions) of trauma counselling by fully qualified, experienced and supervised sessional counsellors, and SARSAS are an organisational member of BACP and adhere to Rape Crisis England and Wales National Service Standards. The service is currently provided in Somerset in our Taunton hub and spokes in Yeovil, Bridgwater, and Glastonbury, for young people including boys and young men aged 13-18, and adult females who have experienced any form of rape or sexual abuse at any time in their lives, regardless of whether they have reported.

We also provide time-limited Specialist Support (up to 20 sessions) for women and girls aged 16+ who have experienced sexual violence and have complex needs, e.g. substance misuse, severe and enduring mental health issues, homelessness or other barriers to accessing services. The focus of this work is on safety and stabilisation, and can often lead on to counselling. The Specialist Support service is currently available in Taunton and Yeovil, and the Specialist Support Worker is also currently providing brief interventions for the concerned others of 13-18 year olds in counselling, involving emotional support and psychoeducation around trauma, with some additional funding.
